National Day of Prayer
What is the National Day of Prayer
The first Thursday in May each year is observed as the National Day of Prayer in the United States. The day is set aside for people from all faiths to pray for the country as a whole. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
When is it Celebrated
The Cleveland NDP and the Mayfield Hts. - Garfield Hts. City Wide National Day of Prayer is held annually on the First Thursday of May in the Cleveland Rotunda, and at various locations within the cities of Mayfield and Garfield. In Garfield it is traditionally held at the hospital, the Fire Station and the Civic Center. For more information see our "Events" tab.
